WARRINGTON, England, April 14, 2015 – Carrier Transicold UK will provide advice to temperature controlled vehicle operators on the new EU517/2014 F-Gas regulation at the 2015 Commercial Vehicle Show. Carrier Transicold , which operates in the UK as Carrier Transicold UK, helps improve global transport and shipping temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, and is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The new F-Gas regulation, which went into effect on 1 January 2015, impacts the use and maintenance of transport refrigeration equipment containing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) on vehicles plated above 3.5 tonnes, including trailers. This includes a planned phase-down of HFCs, to reduce the quantity that can be sold in the EU by 79 per cent by 2030. This will have an effect on availability of HFCs.

There is also a new requirement for transport refrigeration for mandatory leak checks, record keeping and the use of trained technicians holding an F-Gas handling certificate for all refrigerant handling operations.

In Europe, Carrier Transicold is actively working towards replacing current HFC refrigerants with natural refrigerant CO2 (R744), which has a global warming potential (GWP) of 1. In the meantime, Carrier Transicold has announced at the CV Show that it will offer R452A as an optional alternative to the existing R404A refrigerant. R452A has the same cooling capacity, fuel efficiency, reliability and refrigerant charge as R404A, but offers a 45 per cent GWP reduction.

Carrier will introduce this new refrigerant over the second and third quarters of 2015 as an option across its Vector™ trailer refrigeration and Supra™ truck refrigeration product ranges. Customers will also have the option to convert existing units to operate on R452A. These new options are part of Carrier’s commitment to serving customers with the right refrigeration solution for every application, while not every application may have the same refrigerant solution. Carrier Transicold UK can also directly support customers in meeting the F-Gas legislation through its newly launched everCOLD™ flexible maintenance package, which includes all required maintenance and system leak checks performed by F-Gas certified engineers in accordance with EU517/2014.

Carrier Transicold’s exhibition stand also features an exclusive ‘innovation lab’, offering visitors greater insight into the brand’s vision for the use of natural refrigerants in future light commercial vehicle, truck and trailer products, which will help to further sustainability in the cold chain.
