Carrier Transicold UK Focuses on Efficiency at TCS&D 2013
19 September 2013
Carrier Transicold UK is exhibiting three high-efficiency temperature-controlled units at Temperature Controlled Storage & Distribution (TCS&D) 2013, showcasing examples from its extensive range of reefer products for light commercial vehicles, rigid trucks and trailers. Carrier Transicold helps improve global transport and shipping temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, and is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
Carrier’s Vector™1550 mono temperature unit, which reduces overall carbon impact by up to 35 per cent compared to conventional trailer systems, is featured on the stand. Weighing just 739kg, it is one of the lightest trailer refrigeration systems on the market, helping to maximise load-carrying capacity.
Fleets specifying a Vector 1550 system on a new trailer benefit from Carrier’s patented E-Drive™all-electric technology, which substantially reduces maintenance and downtime compared with conventional belt-driven systems due to fewer serviceable parts in the refrigeration cycle. It also allows for extremely precise temperature control of +/- 0.3 degrees Celsius.
For the rigid truck market, Carrier Transicold is displaying its new Supra™1150 refrigeration system. Together with the Supra 1050 and 1250 models, it is one of three new high-capacity units that have been added to the Supra range, which have been developed specifically for distribution operations where multiple door openings are an everyday occurrence.
The new Supra series features new fans that increase airflow by 24 per cent for quick temperature recovery and improved air management, whilst the use of a 7mm condenser and a smaller compressor help to deliver optimum fuel efficiency.
These three additions to the Supra line-up ensure Carrier Transicold has an extensive range of systems for rigid trucks with load space volumes of between 30m3and 90m3– with multi-temperature variants available too.
Rounding out the units on display is a Pulsor™400 system, which is ideally suited for multi-drop work in congested urban environments. Key to the Pulsor 400 unit’s performance is its patented E-Drive technology, which has been specially adapted from the Vector all-electric trailer system. This enables the Pulsor unit to deliver impressive reliability thanks to fewer moving parts, whilst also transforming engine power into electricity via a generator. An inverter then regulates the power delivered according to refrigeration needs, whilst a variable speed hermetic compressor delivers constant capacity in all refrigeration phases.
The E-Drive technology allows the Pulsor 400 unit to reach full refrigeration capacity at low engine speeds (1,000 rpm), ensuring it can maintain temperature integrity throughout the delivery cycle. This high and continuous refrigeration capacity at low engine speeds is ideal for vehicles that routinely operate in congested city centres. In contrast, a conventional refrigeration unit’s compressor is connected to the vehicle’s engine and runs at the same speed, only reaching optimum capacity at approximately 2,400 rpm.
