Long-Distance Work for Carrier Transicold’s New Vector™ 1950 Unit

03 June 2013

Virginia International Logistics has added eight new Vector™ 1950 MT (multi-temperature) refrigeration units to its fleet to transport perishables from its depot in County Cavan, Republic of Ireland to the UK and mainland Europe. Carrier Transicold helps improve global transport and shipping temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, and is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Supplied by Dublin-based Technical Support Services (TSS), which distributes Carrier Transicold equipment throughout Ireland, the Vector 1950 units are mounted to tri-axle Gray & Adams trailers and join a fleet of 80 trucks and 300 trailers.

“We’ve spent three decades building a reputation for delivering quality transport solutions,” said Ray Cole, transport director, Virginia International Logistics. “Customers rely on us to deliver the highest standards of service, and we in turn demand that from our suppliers, which is why we awarded this order to Carrier Transicold and TSS.

“Long-distance transport forms a huge part of our temperature controlled work, with regular runs from Ireland onto the Continent with high-value loads of perishables. Maintaining temperature integrity and unit reliability is critical. We have absolute confidence in the Vector product, plus the added peace of mind of having access to Carrier’s pan-European service network.”

Carrier Transicold’s new Vector 1950 MT unit was launched at the 2012 IAA Show in Hannover and replaces the previous model Vector 1850 system, offering a 4 per cent increase in refrigeration capacity for a total of 18,800 watts. This ensures faster pull-down and the ability to haul larger loads over long distances, whilst its condenser is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, providing improved efficiency.

The Vector 1950 MT unit uses new microchannel coils which contribute to reducing fuel consumption by approximately 10 per cent. These coils enable a compact design that results in a 17 per cent reduction in the unit’s refrigerant charge.
