DMC Trailer Rentals has taken delivery of its 100th transport refrigeration unit from Carrier Transicold UK, whilst also signing up for its 100th Golden Cold® maintenance contract from the company. Carrier Transicold helps improve global transport and shipping temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, and is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The Immingham-based trailer rental specialist has been specifying equipment from Carrier Transicold for the last six years, along with fixed-cost maintenance contracts with every Vector™1550 or 1850 refrigeration unit it introduces into its fleet.

“If we ran all of our service on a pay-as-you-go basis, I’d need to employ a separate administration team just to manage it,” said Kevin Cook, managing director, DMC. “Carrier Transicold’s Golden Cold agreements make running such a large fleet of reefers hassle-free for DMC and our customers. We are able to keep our cost base to a minimum, which in turn allows us to remain competitive. Additionally, we enjoy the added reassurance that our trailers are being looked after exactly as the manufacturer intended.”

Amongst the most recent deliveries to DMC Trailer Rentals are 20 Montracon trailers mounted with Vector 1550 single-temperature refrigeration units, following the supply of 10 identical trailers to the company in 2011. The units are on long-term rental to Rick Bestwick, a specialist in cold storage and transport.

“Whenever we deliver a new trailer, we immediately notify Carrier Transicold and they take on responsibility for coordinating maintenance schedules directly with our customers. The aftersales service they provide is as good as the product; and in the rare event of a breakdown, they keep us fully informed with updates as soon as the technician arrives on-site and again once the job is completed,” added Cook.

Cook says that he favours three-year Golden Cold maintenance agreements on all new trailers, which he typically extends by two or three years subject to customer demand. The oldest assets are replaced every six years to ensure a modern and reliable fleet.

DMC Trailer Rentals was established in June 2000. Today it operates more than 500 trailers on long-term hire with plans to exceed 600 units within the next 12 months. The fleet includes a mix of reefer, curtain-sider and skeletal models, with a customer base ranging from major blue-chips to small local fleets, located predominantly within an 80-miles radius of its premises in North Lincolnshire.

Golden Cold service agreements are available on all Carrier van, truck and trailer units and include all maintenance recommended by Carrier Transicold, carried out by manufacturer-trained technicians using genuine replacement parts. The agreements also include access to 24-hour breakdown assistance throughout the UK, provided by Carrier’s network of 25 service partners, which operate more than 180 mobile engineers.
