Dorset-based Dovey Premium Products (DPP) has selected Carrier Transicold to supply low-noise refrigeration technology across 100 per cent of its fleet. This change in suppliers marks the company’s first use of Carrier technology as it aims to reduce environmental impact across the business.

DPP – a supplier of premium chicken products to restaurants and wholesalers nationwide – has specified Carrier’s low-noise Supra® 550 unit on its four new 7.5 tonne MAN trucks to minimise disruption during quiet hours, reduce its carbon footprint and lower its operating costs.

“Our reputation has been built on the consistent quality of our brand,” said Geoffrey Dovey, CEO of Dovey Premium Products. “But with temperature sensitive products we have to rely heavily on the technology that helps us to transport them. We are located in a beautiful part of the country, and our headquarters back onto a residential estate, so we needed a temperature controlled system that would be sympathetic to our surroundings while offering us increased value for money.”

The Supra 550 unit is perfectly suited to the high quality demands of DPP as it is one of the most accessible and serviceable truck systems available. Many truck systems have generators that are installed in confined spaces beneath the truck engine, which can be difficult and time-intensive to access when service is necessary.

Instead, the Supra 550 unit uses an independent diesel drive system that can be easily, quickly and safely accessed. This feature minimises the length of downtime related to service, which can lower the cost of ownership. Additionally, the independent diesel drive system maintains temperature integrity regardless of engine speed. All Carrier truck refrigeration units are designed to operate with low noise levels and to deliver the optimum balance of low engine emissions and high fuel economy through more efficient combustion.

DPP estimates that each vehicle will complete 70,000 km per year and will remain on the fleet for five years. During this time, the Supra units will be covered by Carrier’s Golden Cold® fixed cost repair and maintenance agreement. This includes all maintenance recommended by Carrier Transicold, carried out by manufacturer-trained technicians using genuine replacement parts, plus access to 24-hour breakdown assistance throughout the UK.
